CHIC

What is CHIC?
In short, CHIC is a database of consolidated health screening results from multiple sources.  Co-sponsored by the OFA and the AKC Canine Health Foundation, CHIC works with parent clubs to identify health screening protocols appropriate for individual breeds.  Dogs tested in accordance with the parent club established requirements, that have their results registered and made available in the public domain are issued CHIC numbers.

 "Merle Guideline"
~We agree with the merle guidelines on how to breed for vivid patterned merles. We recommend that you study basic canine color genetics prior to breeding yourself, and finding a mentor that is breeding merles successfully,  we strongly recommend~
We also recommend that the spotting gene be bred with equal caution, based on health testing and current scientific research on the piebald and excessive white gene. The spotting gene can cause the same health concerns as the merle gene. Breeding homozygous to homozygous excessive whites and/or piebald Chihuahuas is highly increasing your chance of visual loss and hearing loss just to name a few. Health testing your spotted on whites is also highly encourage.
When breeding the spotted on whites all attempts to retain the mantle pattern on the headpiece should be made.
